The National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA) is an organization accredited by the American Bar Association to provide certification for lawyers.
The NBTA was founded in 1977 as a non-profit organization.
The NBTA provides Board Certification for Trial Lawyers & Trial Attorneys, Civil Lawyers, Criminal Lawyers, Family Lawyers and Social Security Disability Lawyers through rigorous testing and approval process. The NBTA works towards bettering the quality of trial advocacy in Courts and assist the consumer of legal services to find experienced and highly qualified trial lawyers.
A NBTA certified social security disability lawyer should be engaged in the comprehensive legal practice of counseling and representing persons with disabilities and their representatives about their rights to receive benefits from the social security administration. Family lawyers certified by NBTA practice law dealing with legal cases arising from the family relationship of husband and wife, cohabitant and parent and child including litigation of civil controversies arising from those relationships. A certified family lawyer’s duty includes evaluating, handling and resolving such controversies prior to the initiation of a suit and post judgment proceedings. A criminal lawyer certified by NBLCS should be engaged in the practice of law dealing with the defense and prosecution of misdemeanor and felony crimes in state and federal trial and appellate courts. A NBTA certified trial lawyers engages in the practice of law dealing with litigation of civil controversies in all areas of substantive law before state courts, federal courts, administrative agencies, and arbitrators. They also evaluate, handle and resolve civil controversies prior to the initiation of suit.
NBTA informs and educate the public concerning legal representation by board certified specialists. It recognizes and promotes excellence in legal advocacy through a national program certifying specialists predicated on high standards of demonstrated competence and integrity.
